Pelvic physiotherapy is a physiotherapy speciality that assesses, prevents and treats urinary, faecal, sexual and reproductive dysfunctions.
Pelvic Physiotherapy intervenes in cases of:
- Urinary incontinence (loss of urine)
- Faecal incontinence (loss of faeces and gas)
- Increased urinary frequency (increased number of trips to the loo)
- Urinary urgency (sudden urge to urinate).
- Constipation (difficulty evacuating)
- Prolapse of the pelvic organs (“falling” of the bladder, uterus and intestines)
- Sexual pain
- Endometriosis
- Infertility
- Pre and post-abdominal and pelvic surgery
Pelvic physiotherapy also accompanies women during pregnancy, preparation for labour and postpartum rehabilitation.
This care aims to give pregnant women the highest quality of life, prepare the pelvis for childbirth and prevent major abdominal and pelvic changes, with a view to an easier postpartum period with fewer sequelae. Postpartum recovery focuses on assessing and restoring the function of the abdomen and pelvic floor, rebalancing the body after so many bodily changes experienced during pregnancy and childbirth. It is suitable for ALL women (vaginal postpartum or caesarean section) and respects the characteristics of each woman.
